Alienware’s G-Sync Ultimate AW2721D – PC Perspective

The Alienware AW2721D Needs A Speed Limiter

If you are looking for a 27″ G-Sync Ultimate display, and will be satisfied with the new less ultimate version of G-Sync Ultimate then you could take a peek at the Alienware AW2721D.  It is advertised as having 1ms GTG response time, which is true if you set the display’s overdrive to Extreme however you do so at the expense of significant overshoot and the odd ghosting which it causes.  Instead you should limit yourself to Fast, which still offers a very good balance of response time and image quality.

The review at Techspot is worth reading through, even if you are not shopping for a display at the moment as their new testing methodology is quite thorough.  They test the true response time, overshoot and cumulative deviation of the display, at each of the overdrive levels the monitor is capable of and compare the AW2721D to around two dozen other models.  This is in addition to the HDR tests, colour gamut measurement, and review of the general attributes of the display.

As far as a 240Hz, 27″ 1440p IPS display goes, this Alienware model is good for someone who occasionally needs a bit better colour accuracy while still getting a bit of gaming done, this isn’t a bad choice at the $800 level.
