  • Android 12’s color theming system will soon be available on more phones.
  • Google has announced that the feature is coming to OnePlus, Samsung, Xiaomi, and more phones.

Google is all set to expand the availability of its dynamic color theming system. The same debuted with Android 12 on the Pixel 6 phones and is one of the core features of Google’s Material You design.

Dynamic theming natively extracts colors from your phone’s wallpaper and uses them to theme your OS. According to Google, the feature will soon land on more Android 12 phones globally. The list includes devices from Samsung, OnePlus, Oppo, Vivo, Realme, Xiaomi, Tecno, and more.

Notably, Samsung and Xiaomi have already implemented their own version of Google’s color-theming system. Samsung introduced the option with One UI 4, while Xiaomi added it to MIUI 13. It’s good to know that more Android 12 phones will now support dynamic themes.

A recent report from Android Police stated that Google could make the feature mandatory for all Android 12 devices. The company is expected to make it a prerequisite if OEMs wish to qualify for Google Mobile Services (GMS). However, Google’s latest announcement doesn’t say anything of the sort.

“As more Android 12 devices land in the next couple months, our OEM partners are working with us to ensure that key design APIs, especially around dynamic color, work consistently across the Android ecosystem so developers can have peace of mind and users can benefit from a cohesive experience,” Google wrote in a press release.

We’re not sure when dynamic theming will land on all the aforementioned devices, but it could be a part of future updates.
