This Leopard Can Change It’s (Frequency) Spots

MSI’s new Leopard gaming laptops feature your choice of several Comet Lake Core i7 processors, an NVIDIA RTX 30 series GPU, Cooler Boost 5, a 17″ 144 Hz refresh rate screen, SteelSeries RGB keyboard and even choices on IO port configurations.  The model that TechPowerUp tested out contains a Core i7-10750H, RTX 3070, a pair of 8GB DDR4-2933 DIMMs and a WD 760P 1 TB NVMe SSD.  The connectivity on their GP76 Leopard included HDMI 2.0, a single USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C and with three USB 3.2 Gen 1.  Networking on the laptop includes ethernet, Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX201 and Bluetooth 5.1.

The components will provide you more than reasonable gaming performance at 1080p, and you can put that 144Hz refresh rate to work.  The neat trick the GP76 Leopard can do, thanks to the MSI Dragon Center.  There is an option in the software to disable the onboard HD Graphics 630 so that only the RTX 3070 is used to drive your display.  That increases the power draw somewhat but also provides improved performance.  In addition, you can also overclock the GPU and memory, in TPU’s case they easily boosted both by 200MHz and say even better gaming performance.

Even better; “fan noise with the overclock was relatively the same as with the system at stock.
