The Pixel 6 Is The Best Of Breed But Very Hard To Find
The rarity of new hardware is nothing new right now and of course affects the new Pixel 6 but that is not the only challenge as there are only a dozen countries you can even hope to find it for sale in. If you can find it for a reasonable price, which should be $599 for the Pixel 6 and $899 for the Pixel 6 Pro, you will get your hands on what Ars Technica calls “the One True Flagship of the Android ecosystem.“
The hardware inside is the first appearance of Google’s own Cortex Tensor CPU, not to be confused with NVIDIA’s Tensor Cores, which contains a pair of 2.8GHz Cortex-X1 cores, a pair of 2.25GHz Cortex-A76 cores and four 1.8GHz Cortex-A55 cores along with a Mali G78 MP20 GPU. Onboard the base model is 8GB of RAM, the Pixel 6 Pro sports 12GB and between 128GB to 512GB of embedded UFS 3.1 which, in theory could offer data transfer at up to 410MB/s.
Geekbench single core performance surpasses the Samsung S21, but not so much on the offscreen test where the S21 still holds the record. If you are curious about the full details, and the names Alphabet chose for the colours then click that link above to get an indepth look at the Pixel 6.
